Cloud as a Story - Vunvulea Radu

Nowadays taking pictures is so easy, you can end up easily with 20-30 shots per day. After a few years of using external HDD as backups I realize that is a time for a change. Until now I used OneDrive to backup pictures from my phone and 3 external HDD that were putted in mirror. This setup works great as long you have enough storage and you external HDDs. But now I ended up with the OneDrive storage at 99.8% full (from 30GB) and with external storage almost full also. What I need? I looked up for a solution that is cheap, can be accessed from anywhere I don't need to install custom software on my machine to be able to access it. The ideal solution would be to be able to attach the storage as a partition. Buying external HDD s is not a solution anymore for me anymore. I would prefer a cloud or storage provider that could offer me a reliable storage for a good price. This was the 4th year when Cluj-Napoca was on map of Global Azure Bootcamp , by ITCamp Community. As usually, the event was focused on hands-on and coding. The number of slides were kept at minimal, at the number of lines of code written during the 5 hours of the event were maximized. During the event, there were the following 3 workshops: Azure Service Fabric in Action (Radu Vunvulea) Service Bus hands-on (Radu Pascal) Azure SQL Database - Everyone's intelligent cloud database (Silviu Niculiță) Each workshop length was 90 minutes and it was full with code and samples. In today post we will talk about Azure Data Factory. But we will try a different approach. We will not look on what are the cores features of Azure Data Factory and when you should use it. Let's take a real life example, when Azure Data Factory can make our life easier. Scenario We have a system hosted on Azure that produce each day 100GB of audit data. There is a requirement from our client, to move this data on his own data center, where he will archive the information on tape. Classical implementation     The use case is pretty simple, but in the same complex. To be able to offer a reliable communication between this two endpoints, you need to ensure that all content is copied on the client data center. For this purpose you could use different tools, base on what kind of storage you have (SQL, binary/raw data, documents and so on). In general, audit data can be found as raw data in binary files. This week I had the great opportunity to participate at  CEE Community Open Days 2016 . The CEE Community Open Days is an annual local event for Microsoft MVP Award and Regional Director Programs in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and CIS countries. This year, the event was organized Prague, a great city, full with history and beautiful places to visit. Each Azure Subscription had a default quotas service limits. You can check this quotas on the following Azure page  https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/documentation/articles/azure-subscription-service-limits/ . This values are set by default and can be increased easily by creating a new support requests. In the new portal there is even a special support request template for this kind of scenarios. I was surprised how fast the support team responded to my requests. In under 15 minutes a part of the quotas were changed of I was contacted to confirm the change. Core Limitation Let's talk a little about Core limitation. The default value is 20. This means that you can have allocated maximum 20 CPU Cores (VMs, Web Roles, Worker Roles, ...). The maximum public limit is 10.000 cores, but the interesting thing will happen in the moment when you want to change this limit and you do a request for it. In this post we will talk about App Service Plan that exists for Azure App Service. The main scope of this post is not to cover all the details, but to put on the table the small things that can make a difference. Do we have a service plan for Web/Worker Roles? No, App Service Plan exists only for Azure App Services like Web Apps, API Apps, Logical Apps, Mobile Apps and so on. Why when I increase the number of instances of a specific Web App I increase automatically the size of the rest of the Web Apps from the same service plan? All resources are shared between all the applications from the same App Service Plan. This means that when you increase the number of instances, you will see this change on all Apps from the same App Service Plan. In this post we will talk about how we can measure how long it takes for a HTTP request to be executed on an ASP.NET MVC application. All the tests are done using a web site hosted on Microsoft Azure. The instance used for this purpose is Shared - F1. Let's assume that we have the following requirement: At the end of each HTTP request you need to add to the logs information related to request duration. The first solution that could come into our mind is to use "HttpContext.Current.Timestamp" to calculate the duration of a request. De ceva vreme ma trezeam ca anumite servicii noi adaugate de catre Microsoft care se acceseaza cu ajutorul unui cont de Live nu functioneaza. Cand doream sa ma logam cu userul si parola nu reuseam. Acest lucru se intampla atat pe telefon cat si de pe desktop. Unele persoane spuneau ca din cauza ca account-ul este unul vechi (de peste 10 ani) unele servicii nu functioneaza. Mi s-a parut ciudata cauza si nu eram convins de aceasta problema. Astazi am avut nevoie sa reinstalez Windows 8 pe cateva masini si dupa ce m-am inregistrat cu account-ul meu m-am trezit ca nu mai ma pot loga. Aveam o masina virtuala blocata si o tableta cu Windows 8 blocata. Si asa am ajuns sa sap, sa vad care poate sa fie problema. Cauza se pare ca este lungimea parolei. In cazul meu aveam o parola de peste 20 de caractere. Am fost nevoit sa schimb parola la una mai scurta de 16 caractere si totul a revenit la normal. Un singur lucru pot sa spun din pacate .... rusinica.
