How Nokia refused to repair my phone after a hardware failure

After 4 years of using Windows Phone devices using Nokia phones, this year I had to ‘fight’ Nokia services. A few weeks ago I had the unique chance to wake up in a morning with the following error message:
“Unable to find a bootable option error”
The black screen of dead from another device with the same problem:

I said “What the hell….”, I tried to restart the phone , but I ended with the same error message. Trying to use Nokia Recovery Tool to rewrite the OS… no result…. The phone is not seen by PC… The phone is completed dead.
From what I found from the internet, it seems that there is a problem with the internal flash memory. It is a common problem for Nokia and the phone cannot be repaired. In USA a lot of people sad that the device is replaced with another one.
Okay, I said no problem. The phone is still in warranty and I will send it back to the dealer. The screen of the phone has in the bottom left a small part of the screen broken (I broke it 1 year ago). But this is another problem and it is not connected to this. See below pictures.

The phone was bought from Emag, so I ended up at Depanero service. They send the phone to another company called Regeneris.
And there was a big surprise. My warranty was removed because the screen issue. Even if the error related to bootable option is a well know issue at Nokia and is not caused by the screen.
They offered me to repair outside the warranty with around 1150 RON (250E) with the condition that they need to change the screen also. Why? Because the internal problem that my phone means replacing the phone with a new one.
I still not understand in this moment why Nokia refuse to repair the problem related to boot error. I don’t want a new screen, I don’t want a new phone I only need to resolve an issues that is caused by hardware failure.
In the last 10 years I had only Nokia phones in my hand and never the cheap ones. And now, when I need a reparation of the phone, which is caused by a hardware failure they are refusing it.
Similar situations I know from friends that had iPhones and Apple changed their phones without any kind of problems or repaired the hardware failure.
I’m disappointed about customer support and services that Nokia and Microsoft has in this moment related to phones….
Why? Because I had to pay for their hardware failure. Even if we are talking about premium devices.
I wanted to upgrade this year to Lumia 1520 or Lumia 930 but I’m starting to have doubts. Why should I go Nokia when the customer support is so lame?

  2. Lousy hardware & software in these Lumias. I was also a nokia fan, just until a year ago when i went through the same crap with nokia care service support. My lumia 800 which i had since 2012 played dead on me. The battery was depleted to that point where it didn't even recognised the charger or the USB cable. It only showed me the empty battery and nothing. I went through hell with nokia care and ultimately i went to a local repair shop which resofted my device with a custom built thing named JTag or something like this. It costed me about 45E. And after about 8 or so months it happened again.

How to audit an Azure Cosmos DB

In this post, we will talk about how we can audit an Azure Cosmos DB database. Before jumping into the problem let us define the business requirement: As an Administrator I want to be able to audit all changes that were done to specific collection inside my Azure Cosmos DB. The requirement is simple, but can be a little tricky to implement fully. First of all when you are using Azure Cosmos DB or any other storage solution there are 99% odds that you’ll have more than one system that writes data to it. This means that you have or not have control on the systems that are doing any create/update/delete operations. Solution 1: Diagnostic Logs Cosmos DB allows us activate diagnostics logs and stream the output a storage account for achieving to other systems like Event Hub or Log Analytics. This would allow us to have information related to who, when, what, response code and how the access operation to our Cosmos DB was done. Beside this there is a field that specifies what was th...

Can User Technical Profile Influence AI Architecture Decisions?

In the last few days, I ran a small experiment on Devin/Windsurf/Cascade, BMAD, and LLM-based architecture decisions. The initial concern was simple: if an AI coding assistant knows something about the user, for example, that the user is a Java developer or a .NET developer, can this information influence the architecture and technology stack that the AI will propose? This question is important because many companies are starting to use AI tools not only for coding but also for product discovery, architecture, documentation, and technical decision-making. If the AI is influenced by the developer's personal profile, the result may not be fully neutral. It may look like a business or architecture decision, but in reality, it may be partially shaped by the context of the person using the tool. The test was done using BMAD with Devin/Windsurf/Cascade. The scenario was a unified field service operations platform. The task was to let BMAD refine the product, define the architecture and s...

ADO.NET provider with invariant name 'System.Data.SqlClient' could not be loaded

Today blog post will be started with the following error when running DB tests on the CI machine: threw exception: System.InvalidOperationException: The Entity Framework provider type 'System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices, EntityFramework.SqlServer' registered in the application config file for the ADO.NET provider with invariant name 'System.Data.SqlClient' could not be loaded. On the devs machines, everything has fine. The classic problem – on my machine it’s working. The CI has the following configuration: TeamCity .NET 4.51 EF 6.0.2 VS2013 It see...
