Official announcement:
Let's try a different kind of event this summer. I proposed to all of you to meet during the lunch break and have a talk about Event Sourcing and CQRS. There will be a special guest (Andrea Saltarello - Solution Architect at Managed Design) that will talk about his own experience on how we should manage Event Sourcing.
If you want to join this talk, then you should book it in your calendar. Don't forget that the event is free being supported by our local community sponsors: 8x8 and Yonder.
When: July 24
Where: The Office , Room A (ground floor)
Agenda:

  • 12:15 - 12:30 | Networking
  • 12:30 - 13:20 | Azure Tales: a real world CQRS and ES Deep Dive (Andrea Saltarello)
  • 13:20 - 13:50 | Networking and sharing experience

Title: Azure Tales: a real world CQRS and ES Deep Dive
Description: Both CQRS and Event Sourcing are by no means the new kids on the block anymore, yet a lot can be told about how to use Azure’s PaaS to implement such patterns and unleash their power without having your costs soaring. The ingredients are: CosmosDB/MongoDB as the event storage, Service Bus as the events’ dispatcher, AppServices/Cloud Services/Service Fabric as the scalable, fault tolerant code cruncher, SQL Azure as the read model and ASP .NET Core as the application framework used to implement views and back-end services. Eager to know the recipe (and look at real code)? Don’t miss this talk then.
Speaker: Andrea Saltarello (Solution Architect | MANAGED DESIGNS)
Bio: Andrea Saltarello is CEO and founder of Managed Designs, a company providing consultancy services related to software design and development. A solution architect, Andrea is still eager to write code in real projects in order to get feedback about his architectural decisions; he is co-author of “Microsoft .NET: Architecting Applications for the Enterprise” by Microsoft Press: first released in 2008, the second edition hit the stores in September 2014. As a trainer and speaker, Andrea had several speaking engagements for courses and conferences across Europe such as DevWeek and Tech-Ed Europe; he also taught “Operating Systems” during the “Master in Editoria Multimediale” class organized by the University “Politecnico of Milan”. In 2001 Andrea co-founded UGIdotNET, the first Italian .NET User Group of whom he is the President and leader: due to his community efforts, he has been granted the Microsoft MVP award since 2003.

A BIG THANK YOU for our local community sponsors that made this event possible:

Why Database Modernization Matters for AI

When companies transition to the cloud, they typically begin with applications and virtual machines, which is often the easier part of the process. The actual complexity arises later when databases are moved. To save time and effort, cloud adoption is more of a cloud migration in an IaaS manner, fulfilling current, but not future needs. Even organisations that are already in the cloud find that their databases, although “migrated,” are not genuinely modernised. This disparity becomes particularly evident when they begin to explore AI technologies. Understanding Modernisation Beyond Migration Database modernisation is distinct from merely relocating an outdated database to Azure. It's about making your data layer ready for future needs, like automation, real-time analytics, and AI capabilities. AI needs high throughput, which can be achieved using native DB cloud capabilities. When your database runs in a traditional setup (even hosted in the cloud), in that case, you will enc...

How to audit an Azure Cosmos DB

In this post, we will talk about how we can audit an Azure Cosmos DB database. Before jumping into the problem let us define the business requirement: As an Administrator I want to be able to audit all changes that were done to specific collection inside my Azure Cosmos DB. The requirement is simple, but can be a little tricky to implement fully. First of all when you are using Azure Cosmos DB or any other storage solution there are 99% odds that you’ll have more than one system that writes data to it. This means that you have or not have control on the systems that are doing any create/update/delete operations. Solution 1: Diagnostic Logs Cosmos DB allows us activate diagnostics logs and stream the output a storage account for achieving to other systems like Event Hub or Log Analytics. This would allow us to have information related to who, when, what, response code and how the access operation to our Cosmos DB was done. Beside this there is a field that specifies what was th...

[Post Event] Azure AI Connect, March 2025

On March 13th, I had the opportunity to speak at Azure AI Connect about modern AI architectures.  My session focused on the importance of modernizing cloud systems to efficiently handle the increasing payload generated by AI.
